Yes, You Can Smile in Your Boudoir Photos!

As you look through the gorgeous boudoir photos in our Demi Girl Photography boudoir galleries and Instagram page, you’ll undoubtedly notice that the number of smoldering facial expressions outweigh the number of smiles, which is, of course, to be expected given the overall sexy and sensual nature of boudoir photography. However, it is an unfortunate misconception that you shouldn’t smile for your boudoir photos, because that couldn’t be further from the truth! Today, we’d like to debunk two of the most common myths we’ve heard over the years about why some women think they shouldn’t smile during a boudoir photoshoot.

Boudoir Myth #1: “I want to look SEXY in my boudoir photos, so I shouldn’t smile.”

Smiling is one of the best energies you can project on this earth, and it actually brings joy to others. Therefore, it actually breaks our hearts a little whenever a client tries to hide her beautiful smile during a boudoir session just because she thinks that a serious face projects a sexier image than her natural smile.

Not only does a smile convey happiness and a sense of humor, but is an expression of flirtation and confidence, as well. I mean, what could be sexier than a happy, confident, and flirtatious woman who has an amazing sense of humor?!?

So, when you find yourself at your boudoir photoshoot wearing an amazing piece of lingerie while the fully-clothed female boudoir photographer, whom you’ve only just met that day, is explaining to you how to get into a “sexy pretzel” pose (which is a real thing, by the way), if you feel like cracking up over the absurdity of it all…go for it!!!! We’ll laugh right along with you! It’s like we always tell our clients at the beginning of every boudoir session, boudoir poses are not “normal,” so it’s perfectly natural to feel a little silly when we ask you to arch your back, close your eyes, and breathe out your mouth. Not only will we not be offended if you can’t help giggling, but we will love having the opportunity to capture your natural smile in the process! (And don’t worry, we will also help you regain your composure so that we can photograph those more serious, sultry expressions, as well.)

Boudoir Myth #2: “If I smile, then I’ll have lines around my mouth, which will look bad in my boudoir photos.”

While it is true that smiling can sometimes create “smile lines” around the mouth (depending on how big you smile), these lines are simply the result of the natural movements of your face and, in our opinion, only add to the overall beauty of your smile! However, we do also understand that some women can be a little more concerned about the appearance of fine lines or creases in their skin (hey, we all have our “thing,” right?). Therefore, we are happy to soften the appearance of smile lines during the editing process, if that is your preference. Please note, however, that we will not completely remove the smile lines, as that would give your face and your expression a very unnatural appearance.

So, if you were thinking about holding back your gorgeous grin during your boudoir session out of fear that it might create unwanted lines on your face, fear no more! Just let us know if you’d prefer that we soften any shadows that might be created by your smile lines during the editing process, and we will be happy to do so.

As you can see, not only is it perfectly okay AND just as sexy to smile in some of your boudoir photos, but those images will probably end up being some of your favorites because they capture a truly authentic side of your personality! But don’t just take our word for it. See for yourself in the following examples of beautiful, beaming boudoir images!
